ONLINE MEDIA PROJECT TEMPLATE

WHERE IT BEGINS
STORY BOARD/SPONSOR DECK

Come up with an idea.
Use imagery from the prior year to help show the vision.
Show a short example of footage from the current year.
Describe the type of filming and storyline one would like to accomplish for the project.
Outline distribution plan, film festival options and award opportunities.

I like to use my website to create the sponsor deck as it's the easiest program to layout and share the deck.

THE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLING
An introspective look into ones attraction to the mountains.

The Mountains Are Calling short example from Dane Tudor on Vimeo.

Chapter 1: The Mountains Are Calling
The movie opens with beautiful scenics drone/tripod shots of the mountains, forest, peaks, rivers and streams, wind blowing across the snow and swaying trees.  Incorporating natural sound design to give the feeling that the mountains are calling.  The draw, m
agnetic pull, visuals of the mountains.

Chapter 2:  Go where you feel most alive.

The essence of vibrational energy.
Everything is silent in the mountains, circling drone shots around Dane and Simon in different mountain locations, feeling the essence of vibrational energy.

Chapter 3:  The Deep Forest
Powder - Pillow Skiing
Dane and Simon communicate the complexities of riding pillows, dealing with the white room and the feeling of blower powder beneath their feet.
Letting go and entering the flow state, skiing effortlessly as snow, weather, terrain align for the perfect moment.

The Moments in-between
We find our selfs drifting.
Depth of mind.
Honing mental mind state.
Shots of Dane and Simon looking out to the mountains, sitting in the trailer staring at the fire, stretching in the trailer and in the mountains.  Zoning out.  Transition into dynamic moving shots of the mountains, forest, rivers, lakes and skiing shots in quick moving editing to get the feeling of a drifting mind state.

2ND STEP,
THE PROJECT ESTIMATE.

The project estimate is a very important part of the process as there is a fixed budget that needs to be adhered to.
One must contact the available videographers and negotiate the filming rate.
Decide on the amount of trips and number of days one would like to film throughout the season.
Add up the total time and keep the filming costs to a set budgeted amount.  Be sure to write up a clearly laid out contract so both parties know what to expect.
Then reach out to all other independent contractors to estimate costs such as sound design, editing, graphics, etc.
I use the prior years numbers to help estimate things such as, food, travel, accommodation.

3RD STEP,
EDIT VIDEO, CREATE SOCIAL ASSETS,
UPLOAD TO GOOGLE DRIVE AND PRIVATE VIMEO LINK

I like to start the editing process during the winter, each day when the footage is logged I sort the footage on a timeline and start to cut the video together as a rough cut.  This helps immensely when I sit down to start the actual editing process in the spring as I don't need to spend extra hours sorting and outlining the footage.

4TH STEP,
CONTACT & SECURE MUSIC LICENSING

This step is usually done in conjunction with the editing process.
There are numerous music licensing websites out there so this requires a lot of search time to find the right music for you.
If you've found music you like through Spotify that isn't on a music licensing site, one can reach out to the artist via facebook, sound cloud, or contact the artist directly off their website.
Negotiate price with the artists management.
License music for youtube/vimeo in perpetuity and 1 year festival rights.

5TH STEP,
CONTACT DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
AND SUBMIT TO FILM FESTIVALS

To submit to film festivals, one can reach out to the festival via the festival website or through a festival submission website that gives one access to numerous festivals around the globe.

6TH STEP,
DROP A TRAILER IF YOU HAVE ONE

When it comes to the trailer release, it's good to have all your assets organized and ready for posting.  I like to use google drive to house the assets which are organized in folders based on the content.  Images, instagram videos, full trailer, video description.
It's also good to reach out to the distribution partners, outline the trailer release and share the google drive folder with them so they can be ready to post the content on the release date.

7TH STEP, RELEASE FULL FILM!  :)

When it comes to the final release, I follow the same process as the trailer release.
Have all your assets organized and ready for posting through the google drive folder.
Reach out to the distribution partners, outline the video release and share the google drive folder with them so they can be ready to post the content on the release date.
