Explanation of costs
Instagrams
Instagram Reels are an additional job for the athlete and as such require a per post rate.
This price doesn't include the expense it costs to capture and produce the gram.
$382 USD per instagram post.
Example. 32 Reels posted at a rate of 2 Reels per week from January through the end of April would cost = $12,224
Film companies
When it comes to working with a film company excluding the athletes travel / expense costs.
Athlete inclusion with title or credit sponsorship varies. In my experience it can range from $10,000 - $20,000 USD for inclusion with end credit logos. Upwards of $20,000 USD for one off projects and title sponsorships.
Personal projects
Personal projects can be more expensive than expected. Creating ski content is a very difficult job, we rely heavily on snow and weather conditions which creates the need of having a filmer on call during the winter and many long weeks and hours in the mountains hammering out the project.
From my experience and chats with freelance videographers they are charging a day rate of $1,500 USD for all projects, this is much higher than most companies expectations when it comes to hiring a filmer.
On top of filmer costs, there is editing costs. Editors are charging $1,000 USD dollars per minute of edited footage, this includes editing, sound and color.
These costs do not include expenses incurred by the filmer or athlete while on the job, this adds an additional layer of cost to the project.
Helicopter expenses
Heli expenses can vary based on the trip. This cost is based on my 2022 trip to Whistler.
Blackcomb helicopter charged a minimum 3 hour day rate of $7,262.34 USD for film projects. This cost is split between 3 athletes = $2,420.78 USD per athlete.
The minimum rate is spent whether we fly 3 hours or not, it is the cost of holding the helicopter for our project for the day.
Travel expenses
Travel expenses based on my 2022 sled access trip to Whistler.
These numbers can vary, they are for information purposes to give a general idea of travel costs for a sled access trip.
This rate includes: Fuel, Food, Accommodation during a 30 day period.
141.404 a day + 30 days = $4,242.12 USD
